Last week, members of our team spent a couple hours at the Richmond Food Bank to lend a helping hand. We’ve donated to the food bank and this was a great opportunity for our team members to see where our donations go.
We were welcomed at their main warehouse on Cedarbridge way where they collect and distribute donations. We were given some background on their operations and a short tour of their facilities.
Since 1983, the Richmond Food Bank serves over 1500 people a week through their various programs. Regularly they give out 30 000 pounds of food a week. That’s a lot of support for our community! Through it all, the Richmond Food Bank receives no governmental support so their whole operation is funding through generous donations and volunteer hours.
We were happy to be a part of this process by doing what we can to help. Our team’s main tasks were to help organize and clean the warehouse. Some helped out by reorganizing packing shelves.
Others sorted recyclables and helped organize the warehouse.
More helped by cleaning behind freezers and pallets.
Some took advantage of the nice weather and helped to wash the food bank’s delivery van.
Beyond supporting our community with donations, we feel it’s also very important to invest our personal time and effort. It was a great couple of hours to get out of our warehouse and spend some time getting involved with our community.
If you know of a food related initiative that is interested in having more volunteers, we would love to be in touch.
